When FinnCaulfield was a kid, his father put a parental lockout on BET so he couldn't listen to hip hop music. That was a dumb parenting move because not only was it racist, but it also just made FinnCaulfeild seek-out and fall even deeper in love. Beatboxing and finger drumming soon followed. After high school, he began exploring music production software and hardware. Then he discovered Prefuse73, which lead him to Warp's amazing early roster. While studying for an MA in Music Technology from the University of Limerick, Ireland, Burial hit his ear hole and he was hooked. It makes perfect sense, then, that the tunes FinnCaulfield creates has varying flavors of hip hop, IDM and garage.

The track "You're So Always" from his EP "That One Part" is probably the best example of these genre influences within a single track. The EP, as a whole, leans more towards the hip hop side of things, with occasional appearances of wonky percussive elements between the steady, yet swung, kick and snare. The second and fourth track are two-minute beat tape affairs that lean more into the boom bap.
